Causing Chemicals! Make Your Own With Coconut Oil And Baking Soda
If you suspect your body has a bad smell, you might need to change your personal hygiene routine. If you`re not sensitive to baking soda, my coconut oil deodorant is amazing and works really well. No more baking soda and homemade remedies for me. Put some on Friday night, today is Tuesday, no smell whatsoever….awesome product! Deodorants and remedies such as rubbing alcohol, antibacterial cleansers, or homemade deodorants may be less irritating to young skin than antiperspirants. I am sensitive to baking soda in deodorant but this one seems like a small ratio of baking soda to the other ingredients so it might just work. Don`t confuse baking soda with baking powder, and no aluminum will be involved in the making of this deodorant. Apply the coconut oil sunscreen to your skin using your fingertips before you head outdoors. Their deodorant is so pure, the Traboulsees made a commercial where their pet Chihuahua Sophie is seen licking it up. Margaux Traboulsee says she wouldn`t let Sophie try that with any other deodorant.
When it is melted or nearly melted, add in your carrier oil and mix until your perfume is totally liquid and warm. Slowly add melted coconut oil, stirring until your mixture becomes a thick paste, about the consistency of glue. It isn`t needed, but the texture and moisturizing effects were so pleasing that I think it will make the best deodorant for my family. It was a lot less irritating to me, though, than most of the deodorant recipes that I`ve seen floating around the internet that use coconut oil and baking soda. Remove from heat and add the vitamin E oil, baking soda, arrowroot powder, probiotics, and essential oils. Since baking soda can be a bit abrasive on teeth, use this toothpaste for every other brushing or a few times a week. If you have sensitive skin, you may consider avoiding alcohol and choosing stick deodorant to prevent rashes.
I make my own homemade deodorant spray deodorant using a beeswax base, in a roll-up stick applicator. Coconut oil contains only 6% monounsaturated and 2% polyunsaturated fatty acids. I poured mine into an old deodorant container while it was still warm and use it just like any other deodorant. I know the baking soda can give some people a rash, but if you`ve definitely got a reaction to coconut, you can try substituting it with either cocoa butter or mango butter. Yeah, and there are already about a million other homemade deodorant recipes out there.
Start to melt the beeswax in the double boiler or makeshift one( water in the bottom pot and your beeswax in the top). Slowly add coconut oil and work it in with a fork or hand blender until it maintains a firm but pliable texture. I`ve also heard if its too irritating, mix the baking soda with cornstarch or arrowroot powder to make it softer. I`ve always despised the overly fragrant commercial deodorant scents but the unscented kinds were even worse.
Here are my personal tips: only one application of deodorant per day is needed, you may want to apply more, but it will just mess your pits up, trust me, and a little coconut oil (or Pure Haven`s Dream Cream, my personal favorite) on them at night does wonders for calming my pits down (haha).
I`ve found that adding a few drops of lavender essential oil as well as the tea tree oil, really ups the ‘deodourizing` aspect of it. As for some people being sensitive to baking soda, I have heard you can make it with either less baking soda/more arrowroot powder (my recipe is half and half of each), or with just the arrowroot powder.
Shea butter has wonderful benefits for the skin and that`s why I originally added it. But then I realized it was the key to making the deodorant slide on easily. As opposed to commercial deodorant which puts toxins into your body, this deodorant does the opposite and actually pulls toxins out of your body!
On hot days I can smell the baking soda & coconut working but never an unpleasant smell. Finally I started dry bushing and using lymphatic massage to remove toxins in my lymph nodes (lots of these under the armpits) All these practices combined with minimal use of natural deodorant cream makes my body odor non existent. I had to see if I could make him something that was more pliable at the temperature in our home, and this easy homemade deodorant recipe for sensitive skin was born! I`ve been using the baking soda/corn starch/coconut oil blend for about 9 months now. Optional: Essential Oils of Choice - I use about 20 drops of lavender essential oil and also like citrus and frankincense. I`m very excited to try this recipe for deodorant now, I would have never thought of using it for that. To buy 4 oz of the name brand pit paste" would cost $21.90, while 4 oz of the homemade version with the same ingredients is a mere $2.27. That`s a savings of almost 90%!
